Acre-Foot
Water Measurement
The volume of water that covers one acre to a depth of one foot — about 325,851 gallons.
An acre-foot is the standard unit Utah uses on water rights and well permits. It equals roughly 325,851 gallons, or enough water to cover a football field about nine inches deep. Most Utah domestic wells are permitted between 1.0 and 4.5 acre-feet per year, while irrigation wells are commonly permitted at 3 to 5 acre-feet per acre depending on the crop and basin.
