Gallons Per Minute (GPM)
Water Measurement
The standard rate at which a well or pump delivers water.
GPM measures how fast a well produces water under pumping. A typical Utah single-family home needs 6 to 12 GPM of sustained yield; an irrigation pivot needs hundreds. GPM should always be reported alongside the drawdown that produced it — 20 GPM at 10 feet of drawdown is a much better well than 20 GPM at 200 feet of drawdown.
