Static Water Level
Hydrology
The natural water level in a well when no pumping is occurring.
Static water level (SWL) is measured from the top of the casing down to the standing water inside the well. Tracking SWL over years is the best home-scale way to detect a falling regional water table. In Utah's drought-affected basins, owners often see SWL drop several feet per year until pump intakes have to be lowered.
