Yield is what the well will reliably deliver day after day, not the peak rate it can hit for a few minutes. Sustained yield is determined by the aquifer's transmissivity, the screen design, and the pump setting. Utah residential wells typically need 6 to 12 GPM sustained; pivot irrigation wells need hundreds. Yield should always be tested, not estimated.
