A sealed motor-and-pump unit that hangs below the water level inside the well casing.
Submersible pumps are the modern standard for almost every Utah water well. They push water to the surface (much more efficient than the suction used by jet pumps) and can lift water hundreds of feet. They are sized in horsepower and gallons per minute to match well yield and household demand, and a well-maintained submersible commonly lasts 10 to 20 years.
