No Water? Emergency Well Repair in Southern & Central Utah
Losing water isn't something you schedule around. A household with no water can't function, and livestock need water today. Langford Drilling is a licensed well driller and pump installer based in Cedar City, serving Southern and Central Utah.
Call 435-233-8954 and tell us you have no water. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM. We will give you a straight answer on when we can get there.
Before You Call: Three Checks, Five Minutes
We'd rather you fix it free than pay us to flip a breaker.
1. The breaker
Well pumps run on a dedicated 240V double-pole breaker. Reset it once. If it trips again right away, stop and call: that is a fault, and repeated resets can finish off a motor that might otherwise be saved.
2. The pressure gauge at the tank
Stuck at zero means nothing is being delivered. Swinging fast between two numbers means the pressure tank has likely failed, which is a repair, not a catastrophe.
3. The pressure switch
Contacts on older switches burn and stick. If the switch looks burnt or corroded, mention it when you call.
If none of that helps, you've still narrowed down the problem, which helps us bring the right parts.
Problems That Can't Wait
No water at all
To a household.
Livestock or irrigation without water
Especially in summer heat.
A pump that won't stop running
This damages the pump and can draw the well down.
Sudden loss of pressure
With signs of a broken line or failed check valve.
Water suddenly brown, cloudy, or gritty
A possible casing or contamination problem.
Freeze damage
At the wellhead or in above-ground plumbing.
A well that has gone dry
Or dropped below the pump intake.
Not every failure is an emergency, and we will tell you honestly when something can wait.
What Happens When You Call
We start on the phone
The gauge reading, what the breaker does, and what the taps are doing usually tell us whether it is a surface repair or a pump pull.
A straight answer on timing
If we can't get there soon enough for you, we say so, so you can decide what to do. That beats being strung along.
The price before the work
You approve the estimate before we start.
While You Wait
No water
Turn off the pump breaker so a running pump doesn't damage itself or draw the well down. Fill containers from whatever pressure is left in the tank.
A burst line
Turn off the pump breaker first, then the main valve. Cutting power stops the pump feeding the leak.
Freezing
Never use an open flame on any part of a well system. Use a space heater in an enclosed well house, and call.
Water suddenly brown or cloudy
Stop drinking it. Use bottled water until it's tested.

Frequently Asked Questions
How fast can you fix it?
It depends on what failed and how far out you are. Pressure tanks, switches, and control boxes are surface repairs. Anything that needs the pump pulled depends on equipment and how far the well is from Cedar City. Call and we'll be straight with you about timing.
My well went dry. Do I need a new well?
Not always. A well whose water level dropped below the pump can sometimes be fixed by lowering the pump. Sometimes it needs rehabilitation, and sometimes it does need a new well. It is worth a proper diagnosis before assuming the worst.
What should I do first when my well stops working?
Check the pump breaker and reset it once. Read the pressure gauge at the tank while a tap runs. If the breaker trips again or the gauge sits at zero, turn the breaker off and call a licensed pump installer.
Do you work on wells you didn't drill?
Yes. We work on wells drilled by other contractors.
Are you licensed to work on well pumps in Utah?
Yes. Langford Drilling holds Utah Division of Water Rights license #969 as both a Well Driller and a Pump Installer, and is bonded and insured.
