The pipe installed in the borehole that keeps the well open and isolates it from surrounding formations.
Well casing is the structural pipe — typically PVC or steel — that lines the borehole. It prevents collapse, keeps unwanted water and sediment out, and provides the channel inside which the pump operates. Utah rules require minimum casing depths and grouted seals. Most Utah domestic wells use 6-inch PVC; agricultural and municipal wells use 10- to 24-inch steel.
